Veterinary Traumatology 

The Montjuïc Veterinary Hospital has a trauma department dedicated to the study and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. The work of our specialists extends far beyond the field of traumatic injuries; It also covers the study of congenital or acquired injuries, in their preventive, therapeutic, rehabilitation and research aspects, and that affect the musculoskeletal system from young to geriatric animals.

The most frequent pathologies are:

  • bone fractures

  • Osteoarthritis. Arthritis.

  • Hip dysplasia

  • Sprains

  • Dislocations

  • Tendonitis

  • Fibrillary breaks.

Conservative treatments are based on:

  • Bloodless reductions

  • Soft bandages (compressive, tapings, Velpeau, Gillchrist, Robert-Jones),

  • Splinting

  • Soft or skeletal tractions.

Surgical treatments involve action on more serious situations or situations that require surgery as the only means of solution. For this purpose, the following are used: open reduction, Kirschner and Steinmann wires, osteosynthesis plates and screws, nail-plate and screw-plate devices, intramedullary nails (Küntscher, Gross-Kempf, Ender, Russ), external fixators (Hoffman, Ilizarov , monolateral), bone graft, bone cements and prostheses for joint replacements.
